Celtic have landed one of Holland's brightest young talents. Joel van den Berg has joined from PSV Eindhoven on a permanent deal.

Done Before the Deadline

The 19-year-old midfielder signed a four-year contract with the option of a further year. Celtic got it over the line in time for the Europa League registration deadline.

He was one of five arrivals in a single frantic day, BBC Sport reported. Van den Berg watched from Celtic Park as the Hoops beat Aberdeen 3-0.

What It Cost

Dutch magazine Voetbal International reported that Celtic agreed to pay PSV a fee of €3.5m. A further €1m in add-ons could take the total to €4.5m. Neither club has confirmed the figure.

Who Is He?

Van den Berg moved from the Vitesse academy to PSV in the summer of 2023. He became a mainstay of their under-21 side and made six official appearances for the first team, PSV said.

He is a Netherlands youth international. He is a gamble on potential, not a ready-made star.

The Verdict

Celtic have paid real money for a teenager. Now the hard part starts. Supporters will be watching to see how quickly he can force his way into Martin O'Neill's plans.
